Description & rules

✨ Unleash Your Creativity: The Grand Mandala Art Competition! ✨

Calling all artists! Dive into the world of sacred geometry, precision, and mindfulness. Whether you are a traditional ink artist or a digital creator, we invite you to showcase your unique interpretation of radial symmetry and intricate design.

Bring your patience, your patterns, and your passion to the canvas. Incredible prizes and recognition await the most captivating designs!

Theme:

Fusion with Folk Art: A very popular trend in contemporary art competitions is blending mandalas with traditional regional arts. For example, merging the geometric symmetry of a mandala with Madhubani, Warli, or Rajasthani folk art motifs to tell a story.

Who can join: Open to all artists.

Medium: Digital

🏆 How Winners Will Be Chosen: We believe in celebrating both pure artistic mastery and public love! There will be two major winning categories:

  1. Jury’s Choice Winner: Evaluated by our guest judges based on symmetry, intricate details, and technical skill.
  2. People’s Choice Winner (Vote-Based): The artwork that captures the hearts of the internet! The entry with the highest number of public votes will take home the prizes and the crown of winners.

Standard Judging Criteria

If you are planning to enter or evaluate a mandala competition, entries are typically judged on four main pillars:

CriteriaWhat Judges Look For
Symmetry & PrecisionHow balanced the layers are. Since mandalas rely on radial balance, the spacing of the grids and the consistency of the repeating elements are vital.
Intricacy & DetailThe depth of the layers. Moving smoothly from the micro-details near the center dot to the larger, macro-strokes on the outer ring.
Color HarmonyThe emotional weight or gradient transition of the color palette (whether using high-contrast black pen ink or rich, blended acrylics/gouache).
Concept & OriginalityHow well the artist broke away from generic patterns to introduce unique storytelling elements, geometric line weights, or cultural fusions.

Tools Used in Competitions

  1. Traditional: Compass, rulers, protractors, fine-line ink pens (like Micron pens), dotting tools (for dot-mandala artists), and acrylics on canvas or wood blocks - Capture the best Possible shot in high quality and upload it.
  2. Digital: Using software like Procreate, Photoshop, or Illustrator using the Radial/Mandala Symmetry guides, which instantly mirror a single brushstroke across multiple segments (e.g., 8, 10, or 12 axes) for flawless digital execution.

Disqualification Criterias:

  1. Off-Theme Submissions: If the competition has a strict theme (for instance, "Chakra Mandalas" or "Folk Art Fusion") and the submission is a beautiful but generic geometric pattern with no relevance to the theme, it will be disqualified.
  2. Inappropriate Content: Including provocative, politically sensitive, offensive, or copyrighted pop-culture symbols inside the mandala rings.
  3. Watermarks or Names on the Artwork: To ensure unbiased judging, most contests use an anonymous blind-review process. Writing your name, signature, initials, or Instagram handle directly on the front of the artwork (unless explicitly told to do so) usually results in immediate disqualification.
  4. Mixing Digital and Traditional: If the competition category is explicitly "Traditional/Hand-drawn," using digital touch-ups or printing a digital grid onto paper to draw over it will disqualify the entry.
  5. Resolution Rules: Submitting low-resolution, blurry photos where the intricate details cannot be judged
