Puri’s Jagannath Temple Holds Nearly ₹1,912 Crore in Deposits, Owns 60,821 Acres of Land

Puri’s Shree Jagannath Temple holds nearly ₹1,912 crore in bank deposits and owns 60,821 acres of land across India, according to a disclosure by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), reported in early September.

Approximately ₹1,811.10 crore was reported under fixed deposits, with another ₹100.71 crore in savings, current and flexi accounts. The reported holdings include a ₹500 crore corpus contribution from the Odisha government; this amount is already included in the headline figure.

The administration allocates resources across the Corpus Fund, Foundation Fund and Temple Fund. Regular expenses are met through the Temple Fund, while surplus amounts are placed in fixed deposits.

Revenue comes from several sources, including devotees’ offerings, interest on deposits, temple-owned mines and quarries, land-related receipts and government grants. The temple’s land holdings extend well beyond Puri. Of the reported 60,821 acres, 60,426 acres are spread across 24 districts of Odisha. Another 395 acres are located in six other states, including West Bengal.

The disclosure also describes how donations are accounted for. According to the administration, offerings collected through the temple’s Hundi are counted daily, with collection details displayed on information boards and shared on social media.
