Odisha Marks Two Years of Governance with ₹47,600 Crore Development Push

Rairangpur, Odisha – The state of Odisha marked a significant milestone on June 20, 2026, as it celebrated the second anniversary of the current state government. The event was highlighted by the historic joint presence of the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who gathered to unveil a massive development package aimed at driving the state toward a new era of economic prosperity.

The event, themed “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara” (The Flow of Development, Across Odisha), served as a grand platform for the inauguration of 60 completed projects and the laying of foundation stones for 11 new strategic projects, with a combined valuation exceeding ₹47,600 crore.

A Historic Visit to the President’s Roots

The celebration carried deep symbolic significance, as the events took place in Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj—the home district of President Droupadi Murmu. Earlier in the day, the President and the Prime Minister visited the President’s native village, Pahadpur. During this visit, Prime Minister Modi announced that Pahadpur would be developed into a "Surya Gram" (Solar Village), a model initiative designed to power every household in the village with sustainable solar energy and provide modern public infrastructure.

Key Pillars of the Development Initiative

The development package focuses on the "double-engine" growth model, aiming to bolster Odisha's potential as a gateway for Eastern India’s prosperity. Key projects include:

  1. Energy & Industrial Infrastructure: The foundation stone was laid for the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) project in Jharsuguda, a critical step toward cleaner energy and industrial job creation. Other major energy projects include the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project and the expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station.
  2. Connectivity and Logistics: To enhance regional transit, the government initiated the widening of the Dhalpur-Harbhanga Road and the construction of a new bridge over the Kathajodi river, which will provide a vital link between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
  3. Public Infrastructure: The inauguration included 24 Atal Bus Stands and nine Automated Testing Stations, alongside a new 300-bed District Headquarters Hospital in Boudh, strengthening healthcare and public transport across multiple districts.

A Shared Vision for Odisha

In her address, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized that development is truly meaningful only when its benefits reach every village, family, and citizen. She lauded the ongoing efforts to improve human development indicators in tribal and remote regions. Prime Minister Modi, while extending his birthday greetings to the President, reiterated the central government’s commitment to "Purvodaya" (the rise of the East) and expressed his pride in seeing Odisha emerge as a leader in industrial growth and social advancement.

As the state enters its third year under the current administration, these initiatives represent a bold step toward a more self-reliant and modern Odisha, with both the Union and State governments working in close coordination to realize a vision of inclusive, sustainable development.
